Active Sports Therapy Team  | Dr. David Westmacott | | Chiropractor / Active Release Provider / Registered Massage Therapist | | View Biography | | Close Dr. Westmacott Graduated from McMaster University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Kinesiology and from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2001 with a Doctor of Chiropractic. Dr. Westmacott is also a Registered Massage Therapist and has been a Credentialed Active Release Techniques provider since 2000. Following an up bringing in a medical family, chiropractic seemed a natural fit. Through his passion for sport and the human body, he directs his practice towards optimizing body movement to reach its full potential. Dr. Westmacott believes that life is expressed through movement and function, and through optimum health we can enjoy life at the highest level. Dr. Westmacott has been in practice for over 7 years treating joint and soft tissue (muscle) injuries caused by repetitive strain, activity and sport. His practice ranges from Professional, National, and Olympic Level Athletes, to weekend warriors and all who love activity as well as those who would like to obtain and maintain a pain free active lifestyle. Dr. Westmacott moved from Toronto to Calgary in 2001 to be closer to the mountains. He then moved to Minneapolis to attend the Northwestern College of Chiropractic from which he graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic (cum laude). Dr. Finan has been practicing in Calgary since 2000. His focus in practice is to provide excellent care to patients in pain, and also teach them how to take care of themselves to prevent and eliminate pain in their lives. Soft tissue rehabilitation is the cornerstone to his care. Being a chiropractor, spinal and extremity adjusting is still a part of his focus, however soft tissue repair and restoration dominates his treatment strategies. Classically trained by various orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and chiropractors with a focus in soft tissue treatment, he has developed an acute sense for soft tissue injury, and is well-equipped to treat even the most difficult cases. All of his life Dr. Finan has been engrossed in sports of all kinds. Growing up he played hockey, soccer, football, baseball, golf, tennis and track and field. As well, he engaged in swimming, running, cycling and weight lifting. Dr. Finan has participated in most sports, and knows the common injuries arising from them. With this knowledge, he is able to treat them effectively. His interest in learning and teaching helps him in practice as he is able to explain to patients how the body works, and how nutrition fits into health care, or how proper equipment can make all the difference in sport. |  | | Close Dr. Gayle Maguire, Naturopathic Doctor (N.D.) Dr. Maguire studied Biochemistry at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg before being accepted into the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto for the four-year full-time program. Dr. Maguire provides a unique and individualized treatment for patients looking for healthcare tailored to them. This ranges from patients looking for ideas to complement their existing healthcare, to those looking for alternatives, to those who have fallen between the cracks of other systems. Dr. Maguire believes in enhancing the way patients live day-to-day in order to achieve their health goals. She often incorporates nutritional counseling into her treatment plans using as few supplements as possible. Dr. Maguire is also certified in clinical acupuncture and has a special interest in injury care, hormone therapies, children and mental health concerns. Dr. Maguire teaches medical sciences at the Canadian Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine in Calgary. Through genuine concern for our patients, Rose is committed to assisting patients with their individual needs. |  | | Close Michelle graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta with a bachelor of physical therapy in 1990. She holds certifications in manual therapy and exercise prescription. She also has an interest and certification in canine and equine physiotherapy. Michelle was the owner and director of Vaudreuil Physiotherapy and Sport Centre in Quebec for 10 years before moving to Calgary. She has worked with a variety of sport teams during her career and has extensive experience with athletes of all levels from amateurs to professionals. She has taught ballet and figure skating for children and is an accomplished horse back rider. She then went on to complete her Registered Holistic Nutrition diploma from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. She has recently completed the Body-Mind Nutrition certification as well. Nicole is eager to learn, and uses the knowledge she has amassed to help her clients reach their goals. Nicole has an interest in Sports Nutrition, Pre- and Post-Natal nutrition, as well as weight loss. She brings enthusiasm and a passion for nutrition to the Active Sports Therapy team. Nicole believes that true health begins with what we eat, and that can dictate how we feel, act, and live. In her spare time, Nicole loves to cook, and loves to experiment with different raw foods and unusual creations. She also likes to spend time playing floor hockey, ultimate frisbee, reading, spending time with family, taking her new puppy for walks and travelling. That is why we are very pleased to have Nicole as a member of our team. |  | | Close Rebecca Breneman, founder of AGOODFIT personal taining, is a mobile personal trainer specializing in core strength and weight-loss. She is certified through Can-Fit-Pro and is also certified in pre and post natal exercise prescription. Rebecca is dedicated to continuing education and is currently working on several Stott Pilates certifications. "My core belief as a personal trainer is in the importance of educating my clients as much as possible and to equip them with the tools and knowledge necessary to take care of their own bodies. When not working, Lori spends a great deal of time with her family of three boys, jogging, strength training, skiing and spending time at the family cottage. With over 8 years of experience, Brandi has focused on a wide range of conditions including whiplash, repetitive strain injuries, TMJ dysfunction and migraine/tension headaches as well as with other injuries and chronic conditions such as arthritis or frozen shoulder. Brandi has been with the Active Sports Therapy team for four years and is a native Calgarian. She spends time with her daughter at the local pool and Calgary city parks as well as enjoys gardening and spending time in the mountains. |  | | Close Kelly graduated from Mount Royal College with her Massage Therapy certificate. She intends that with massage treatments her patients will improve both physically and mentally, as well as taking away with them a greater sense of body awareness. Kelly has had experience working with and treating repetitive strain injuries, whiplash, tension headaches, TMJ dysfunction, tendonitis, sports injuries, acute and chronic pain, sciatica and pregnancy massage. Kelly is an Ashtanga Yoga instructor having completed her training under Amber Kyliuk at Yoga Dot Calm and a Yoga instructor for Kids trained by Michelle Goulet. Kelly is also a Structural Yoga instructor trained under Gert van Leeuwen from Amsterdam based on his ideas of Critical Alignment Therapy. She has studied with renowned Ashtanga Yoga instructor Beryl Bender-Birch, the author of "Power Yoga" and "Beyond Power Yoga". Kelly was born and raised in Calgary and plays soccer in the Calgary Women's Soccer League. As for other interests she enjoys literature and spending time with her friends, family and of course her dog. She is a graduate of the 2200 hour Massage Therapy program at the Foothills College of Massage Therapy. Her training consisted of both relaxation and deep tissue massage techniques, and included courses on Myofascial Release Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Visceral Release, and Shiatsu. Megan has had experience treating a variety of conditions including whiplash, repetitive strain, tendonitis, and tension headaches. In the future Megan is planning a trip to Thailand to study traditional Thai Massage. She believes that blending Eastern ideals into her work as a Massage Therapist will greatly enrich her practice and her life. Megan enjoys reading in her spare time and playing with her three pets. She loves to travel and experience different cultures, and is currently studying Japanese. “As massage therapists we bring 50% to the table; our clients bring the other 50%.” |  | | Close Jennifer graduated from Foothills College of Massage Therapy in March 2006 and worked part time at a physiotherapy clinic until joining Active Sports Therapy in July 2008. Jennifer specializes in therapeutic massage using deep tissue and myofascial techniques to treat a variety of conditions - most commonly - chronic injuries, repetitive strain conditions and headaches. Relaxation massage for stress reduction is also a big part of her practice. Her warm welcome and genuine caring nature makes Jessica a pleasant addition to the AST team. She excels in customer service and organizational skills. Jessica’s passions include travel and the outdoors. She has already visited a few places such as the Bahamas, Italy, Slovakia, Belgium, Germany and Holland more than once to visit family. She one day wishes to tour the Galapagos Islands, as well as the tropical rainforest. |  | | Close Sarah is a full time student at the University of Calgary working toward a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Sarah has figure skated for 16 years and now looks forward to giving back to her sport through coaching. Sarah will be working part time at AST during the school year. |  | | Close Crystal is currently a grade 12 student. She is passionate about ringette and has been playing for the past 12 years.
